Spend morning in Tbilisi and then go to the roof of the hotel Sharden to sketch the roofs of Tbilisi. Leave late morning and drive towards eastern Georgia along an avenue of walnut trees which stretches all the way to the Caspian, having stopped for a wine-soaked lunch; wine is meant to have originated in Georgia. The white wine is golden in colour but they use very little, or no sulphur so no one feels ill. Arrive in Telavi in late afternoon . The town has an odd feeling as the facades of the shops are mostly new but the shops behind them are small and old-fashioned. Couples and singles are again split up!
